Title: Lost Egg's Plog
Post by: Lost Egg on September 13, 2015, 09:57:15 pm
Hi all, its been a long time since I posted anything WoT. Recently I've been trying to dig myself out of an Aspie hole...in an effort to avoid things getting on top of me I've been sorting through my mountain of plastic, resin & lead, selling most of it on eBay. Don't worry I'm keeping some of my WoT minis :)

At the mo I am slowly working on some terrain and have just built a small 2ft sq game board.
(http://i1074.photobucket.com/albums/w418/Lost-Egg/Terrain/Game%20Board%201_zpse2z2o5jm.jpg) (http://s1074.photobucket.com/user/Lost-Egg/media/Terrain/Game%20Board%201_zpse2z2o5jm.jpg.html)
(http://i1074.photobucket.com/albums/w418/Lost-Egg/Terrain/Game%20Board%202_zpscpehkfc7.jpg) (http://s1074.photobucket.com/user/Lost-Egg/media/Terrain/Game%20Board%202_zpscpehkfc7.jpg.html)

It's much lighter than the boards I've built previously but seems to be just as strong. The board and terrain is generic so I can use it for different games, not that I've played a game for aaagggeeesss.

Currently I making some rock formations then some woods. After that its going to be an Engu warband...

I'm not planning anything terribly complicated for the rocks but decided to dig up a few images for inspiration...

(http://i1074.photobucket.com/albums/w418/Lost-Egg/Terrain/Rocks_zpsq69chvto.jpg) (http://s1074.photobucket.com/user/Lost-Egg/media/Terrain/Rocks_zpsq69chvto.jpg.html)

Though I'm going with an Engu warband I didn't want to put snow about everywhere. I guess my ladies will be living on the lower slopes of the peaks of their homeland...the Delgon haven't forced them out of their homes yet.

I've also started doing a few little sketches of a small settlement and maybe a boat builders longhouse but I'm still fiddling with those...

P.S. I promise my next scale pics will have actual WoT minis in them  :o ::)

good inspiration. i'll be interested to see how it progresses. I'm thinking I might like to make a table myself, but haven't quite decided what I want to do yet. nice frame up for the table. what kind of wood are you using?

Title: Re: Lost Egg's Plog
Post by: Lost Egg on September 14, 2015, 08:06:22 pm
Cheers GrimSnik :)

I used 6mm plywood for the top then the frame was made from 12x44mm pine with 6x18mm pine edging glued and tacked on.

I would like to make a 3ftsq folding table at some point but I have way too much to do and no real space to store it at the mo. The 2 footer fits nicely in my wardrobe still leaving enough space for my son to climb and hide :D

Now, I had intended to take some WIP shots of the rocks...but I forgot until I had sprayed them, doh!

Alas, here be rocks...
(http://i1074.photobucket.com/albums/w418/Lost-Egg/Terrain/Rocks%201_zpsdapdgel4.jpg) (http://s1074.photobucket.com/user/Lost-Egg/media/Terrain/Rocks%201_zpsdapdgel4.jpg.html)

And here be rocks in a tub...
(http://i1074.photobucket.com/albums/w418/Lost-Egg/Terrain/Rocks%202_zpsljfuldvg.jpg) (http://s1074.photobucket.com/user/Lost-Egg/media/Terrain/Rocks%202_zpsljfuldvg.jpg.html)

My aim is to make a small range of terrain that fits in that there tub, making it dead easy to store it all and makes it easy to lug it all down the LGC (whenever I finally manage to start gaming again). Overall, I'm pretty happy with it all; thats pretty good coverage with just 6 pieces of terrain on my 2'x2' board, still there is plenty of room to add more terrain :D

Next, I've got a Hasslefree barbarian to paint up then I'm going to start making some woods and after that I think some Engu might be making an appearance...

Well, the barbarian is finished... (here she is if your interested)
(http://i1074.photobucket.com/albums/w418/Lost-Egg/Odds%20n%20Sods/Libby%201_zpsavjk827u.jpg) (http://s1074.photobucket.com/user/Lost-Egg/media/Odds%20n%20Sods/Libby%201_zpsavjk827u.jpg.html)

I also managed to get the first half of my Engu warband built up and will be undercoating them tomorrow.
(http://i1074.photobucket.com/albums/w418/Lost-Egg/World%20of%20Twilight/Engu%20Batch%201_zpskz8bglif.jpg) (http://s1074.photobucket.com/user/Lost-Egg/media/World%20of%20Twilight/Engu%20Batch%201_zpskz8bglif.jpg.html)

I know a Kapa can't normally have a Kosok but after seeing a pic of a mountain chappie flying his eagle I thought it would work well. I can imagine him using the Kosok to spot for enemies and whatnot.

In the end I decided to hold off on the woods and instead of making my own, a bugger to do and transport, I'm going to grab some Citadel woods when its my bday at the start of Dec.

Nice work all round!

I'm somewhat shamed every time I see a painted barbarian Libby. I was gifted one the day they first released them and have never managed to get paint on it!

I look forward to seeing your Engu all done up - they are among my favourite painting projects from the range so far.

Title: Re: Lost Egg's Plog
Post by: Lost Egg on October 14, 2015, 09:09:07 am
Cheers, me too :D

I've got one mini from ages ago all painted up...
(http://i1074.photobucket.com/albums/w418/Lost-Egg/World%20of%20Twilight/Eragu_zps1f3ded0c.jpg) (http://s1074.photobucket.com/user/Lost-Egg/media/World%20of%20Twilight/Eragu_zps1f3ded0c.jpg.html)
...but I've recently(ish) switched to Coat d'arms paints (classic GW) so will be trying to match the paint scheme with the new minis. It's quite likely I will strip this lady (ooo-err) and repaint her too with the next batch.

Recently I've painted up a handful of what I would call random minis and its been quite fun; Libby was no exception. For years I only bought minis for armies but since getting with my wife she's been encouraging me to get random minis each year we go to Salute, animals of the kids birth signs and whatnot. Only recently, with me selling off a load of minis to make the old paint queue more organised, have I finally started painting them up and its been fun.

Can't make Salute this year as we are on hols for my wife birthday but I've already started making a list of random minis for 2017...I never wanted to have all my minis painted up anyway ;)

For the first time in aaagggeeesss I actually have finished painting some WoT minis, yay! :D
(http://i1074.photobucket.com/albums/w418/Lost-Egg/World%20of%20Twilight/Draals_zpsgiwunx5h.jpg) (http://s1074.photobucket.com/user/Lost-Egg/media/World%20of%20Twilight/Draals_zpsgiwunx5h.jpg.html)
(http://i1074.photobucket.com/albums/w418/Lost-Egg/World%20of%20Twilight/Kopa20amp20Old20Scheme_zpsszdisouq.jpg) (http://s1074.photobucket.com/user/Lost-Egg/media/World%20of%20Twilight/Kopa20amp20Old20Scheme_zpsszdisouq.jpg.html)

First up are 3 Draals followed by the war bands Kopa (his beasties will be painted later) and the first Engu I painted before I switched from GW to Coat d'arms paints. My aim was to pretty much use the same colours.

Next up I will be starting to build 2 axes and a Garosa.

Update time! Behold the second batch of Engu have been built...
(http://i1074.photobucket.com/albums/w418/Lost-Egg/World%20of%20Twilight/Engu%20Batch%202_zpsdqt1pcuq.jpg) (http://s1074.photobucket.com/user/Lost-Egg/media/World%20of%20Twilight/Engu%20Batch%202_zpsdqt1pcuq.jpg.html)

...so thats 3 axes,a Garosa, 2 harpoons, 3 Yirnak and a camp fire for roasting marshmallows! :D

Painting-wise I think I will start with the 3 Yirnak and the Tahela (from the first batch of minis I built up) then I might paint the rest of the guys in one go.

nice look with the harnessed barrels.  :)

Title: Re: Lost Egg's Plog
Post by: Lost Egg on November 06, 2015, 11:31:40 pm
Thanks, I thought Baruk would look a little odd in such a cold climate. The barrels are from Renedra and work well with the Yirnak; if anyone is interested I went with the small barrels as the big ones were just too big. Still, they will work well with a terrain idea I have :)

Very nicely done!

Awesome! Good use of the yirnak  :)
I seem to have been a bit remiss commenting on this thread...
Impressive purples on the big cat!
Good to see your Engu clan taking shape - you have inspired me to sculpt the shipbuilder  ;D

More minis coming soon(ish), the Yirnak and Tahela seem to be coming on OK :)

Title: Re: Lost Egg's Plog

...and...update time again...
(http://i1074.photobucket.com/albums/w418/Lost-Egg/World%20of%20Twilight/Yirnak%20amp%20Tahela_zpshjludncn.jpg) (http://s1074.photobucket.com/user/Lost-Egg/media/World%20of%20Twilight/Yirnak%20amp%20Tahela_zpshjludncn.jpg.html)

Here's my little Yirnak herd all painted up as well as the campfire. I had thought about doing something a little different with the Tahela but in the end I went with the same coloured fur as the Yirnak to help tie it to the warband. I have a few ideas for the Kosok but nothing set in stone yet so I will be painting up the rest of my Engu (3 axes, 2 harpoons & a Garosa).

:)

nice finish on the packbeasts and  I really like the like haired Tahela.   :)   lots of options with them.... you could add them in to a trade caravan for some exotic flare or have a Yirnak round-up.   :D   ;)

The axes & harpoons are done :) I tried getting better photos of the minis so far but they aren't as good as I'd like. Sadly I don't really have the space or time plus I think its one of those things that is harder than you'd think.

Next up I've got the Kosok still to paint and I've made up a couple of fungi scatter terrain bases. I've also ordered the ship builder and some more fungi.

I think the lighting in the picture is fine. it has a sort of dusk/dawn quality to it with so much light coming form one direction. it might not have been what you intended, but it's a nice picture nonetheless.....  ;)

Cheers Slann :)

Well...2 updates within a week, thats pretty much unheard of...
(http://i1074.photobucket.com/albums/w418/Lost-Egg/World%20of%20Twilight/Kopa%20amp%20Beasts_zpso27kiyny.jpg) (http://s1074.photobucket.com/user/Lost-Egg/media/World%20of%20Twilight/Kopa%20amp%20Beasts_zpso27kiyny.jpg.html)

Here we have the painted Kosok with its master, my Engu Kopa and his Tahela. With the Kosok I wanted to add a splash of colour but still tie it in to the rest of the warband so it has a pinky-purple underbelly; the colouration is based on an actual bird (as are the colours of the fungi below).

I also managed to get a little scatter terrain finished...
(http://i1074.photobucket.com/albums/w418/Lost-Egg/World%20of%20Twilight/WoT%20Fungi_zpsvtcqpfzv.jpg) (http://s1074.photobucket.com/user/Lost-Egg/media/World%20of%20Twilight/WoT%20Fungi_zpsvtcqpfzv.jpg.html)
I've got some more of these fungi on order so I will have a few more bases soon.

Cheers Mike, thanks again for those. :D

I seem to be on a terrain binge at the mo so will take some, hopefully, better pics once I've got some more made.

I have a couple of ideas for Engu terrain, at least one of which will definitely get made. I also want to make a cliff face to act as a more interesting back drop to pics.

Thanks GrimSnik :)

My Engu are fairly earthy so I wanted to add a splash of colour. The little critter was fun to paint, I based his colours on a tropical bird...actually I based the fungi on actual species too.

These look great - you've done a good job of the colour change and selection for your fungi.  I like the figures when they're in nice a bright colours, especially the parrot beak you've done on your critter, good idea!

Wow, very characterful units and scenery.
Like Benmoor already said, the many different colours make it all look great.
It gives the whole a bit of a Fairy tale/otherworldly feeling.
Any chance for a complete picture? I love to see them all on your table.

No idea why but these feel like they have taken aaagggeeesss to finish. Didn't have a WoT mini to hand (they are all up in my display cabinet beyond the sleeping kiddies) so the mini for scale is a Relicblade Questing Knight (check out the KS campaign, its worth jumping in on!...

I like how they mark a forest area, while still providing a lot of ground for the miniatures to move through.
On the downside there are a lot of unwanted details (skulls, ropes), which is why I never bought a set.
Yours are very characterful and will look great on the tabletop.

Cheers, I just ignored the silly detail and flocked over the skulls on the base :D

You've done a nice job on these. It's the same story ŵith the realm of battle boards which I have - loads of unwanted details for anything other than warhammer but at the end of the day, it's pretty good stuff. Good work!

Post by: Carcharoth on March 13, 2016, 10:12:32 pm
It took ages to fill in all the skulls from my realm of battle boards... They were worth the effort though!
Good use of the trees - I was always quite tempted by them.

Your a brave man Mike, I'd just have covered them with static grass :D

I guess they need to keep true to their Gothic and doom style.
They make great sets and it is a bit of a shame they don't make their terrain more generic.
Luckily their LoTR terrain is excellent too and had far less skulls.
