Title: Salute 2012 - the games Post by: Carcharoth on March 20, 2012, 10:32:40 pm It's really not long until Salute now (21st April), so it's about time to get myself organised...
This year at salute we should hopefully have two tables - a tiny one on the stand for demoing the game, and a round gaming table hosted by hasslefree. I'll be putting together a few different 300 or 400pt forces that will be used for some games on the main table. However, if anybody would like to bring a fully painted force along then you are more than welcome to come and have a game. If you can't field a force of your own painted figures, but would like to play then you are welcome to build a force in advance using figures from my collection, or use one of the pre-planned forces I'll have there. It'll mainly be a bit of fun and a way to show people it played, but I'll sort some little prizes for participants. So, who is coming to Salute and would anybody like to have a game or two on the day? Title: Re: Salute 2012 - the games Post by: Geckilian on April 05, 2012, 07:36:51 pm I'll happily bring my forces to lend out if you like, someone should at least get a game with them!

Title: Re: Salute 2012 - the games Post by: TuffSkull on April 21, 2012, 08:36:36 pm What a great day!
Thanks to all the Twilight crew. Was great to put faces to Names. First up Apologies to HN to whom I never introduced myself. I didn't realise who you were until after you left! Thanks to Mike & the stand crew as always - you seemed busy every time I looked which I hope converted into a profitable day for you (and thus plenty more production funds for minis for the rest of us ;D ). I certainly came home with a fair pile of lead which I'm looking forward to working on, not that I'll ever match the vast hordes of Gekilian! On that note, big thanks to Gekilian (Chris! or hereafter, the Tactical Prof. ) for a great game. I certainly didn't deserve to come out with a draw. My Slingers are now the SS - the elite "Suicide Slingers" unit. Herder Captains are great additions if you have your head screwed on (which I clearly didn't). I also take back any bad word I ever said against Commander Brenar's usefulness in smaller games. If he's that lucky next time I use him then he's a permanent addition to my forces. Having watched my own poor commandership see to the death of most of my forces and helping me out couple of pointers, Chris then had to watch as Brenar refused to die until the last moment, taking down 2 devanu and a small sea of Grishak with him, leaving an empty board at the end of a marathon game! Also a Big nod to Ben and Steve for their painting. Great to see it in person, truly inspiring. I look forward to the next time, and I'll try to be more on the ball for the gaming! Title: Re: Salute 2012 - the games Post by: Geckilian on April 21, 2012, 08:46:16 pm Yeah, a fantastic day. Considering how little shopping I did after the first 20 minutes, I'll probably just offer to crew for you Mike next year, after 20 or so minutes shopping...
I found out who HN was after he left too, apologies for that. The Twilight stand did seem busy whenever I meandered by - I felt sorry for the not-Chaos-Dwarves stand next to Twilight, I never saw a customer there... From that small amount of chatting I did with the Twilight customers and people around the gaming table, the aesthetic and feel of the game is still drawing people in. I also came home with a fair pile of lead, so you're certainly correct about not catching up to me Paul! Though you hardly need to if Brenar is to be trusted. That was an incredibly fun game, but dear lord Brenar wasn't just wearing armour, but had several kinds of kinetic barriers and displacer fields. Ye gods, he wouldn't die. I did enjoy those slingers - it almost seemed they were more effective smashing Grishak in the face with their 1 CS rather than shooting at times. Having seen all the models again in person, I should probably up the ante of my painting - as I said Mike, your priests are excellent. Makes me tempted to add crimson or purple/bone in place of green as a 'swathe' spot colour/s. Hmm. Hmmmm. I may have to repaint one of the Acolytes to see. Title: Re: Salute 2012 - the games Post by: Megatron0 on April 21, 2012, 10:34:22 pm I left quite early because of my illness but I managed to snag a Laden belan really early on! was nice to see faces even if i didnt get any names :P
Title: Re: Salute 2012 - the games Post by: Ritualnet on April 21, 2012, 11:26:47 pm Hi, I loved the demo, and glad I bought the starter/stuff! It was amazing to see the game in the flesh, and it was definitely the highlight of Salute (my first visit too) for me. My partner actually liked the figures too! I just need to get around to making them.
There is one thing I need to check, in the starter, the militia unit, is it supposed to contain 5 figures (with 6 bases and 6 spears)? I looked over the figures but not sure if there is a militia captain or not I went on to Pyre to see what they said, but they just said "militia unit", and not the number of figures in there. Aside from that, I love it, my partner likes it, and when I get home I'll start building and painting! Looks like you're missing a dude. Get in touch with Carcharoth and he'll sort you out Title: Re: Salute 2012 - the games Post by: Ritualnet on April 22, 2012, 12:19:13 am I will do! For now though, I'm going to bed to read the rulebooks. I'm trying to work out if there is any set "bad guys/good guys" or if it's all really just shades of grey (The hunters are now the hunted, the slaves are now rulers, who refuse to help, and the outcasts now invade).
Title: Re: Salute 2012 - the games Post by: Carcharoth on April 22, 2012, 08:00:18 am Glad you had fun at Salute - its quite an experience isn't it! It was fun playing the demo games and everybody I played with seemed to enjoy themselves. If made all the work on the board seem really worthwhile! :)
I've sent you an email re the militia and i will sort it out ASAP. Title: Re: Salute 2012 - the games Post by: Megatron0 on April 22, 2012, 11:37:54 am I'm trying to work out if there is any set "bad guys/good guys" or if it's all really just shades of grey I would generally say the Faburnii are the good guys while the Devanu are evil. But that's just me :P Title: Re: Salute 2012 - the games Post by: Carcharoth on April 22, 2012, 01:23:49 pm Ritualnet actually summed it up rather nicely in his email to me - I hope he doesn't mind me quoting him!
Quote I will read through the rules in a bit, but I am curious about something. Some games, have a set "this is bad/this is good", while others blur the lines. Where does the factions in Twilight stand on this? The Devanu seem "evil" as they enslaved the Fubarnii, but then they seem to be more instinctual/predator animals, so just like a lion, there is no "right or wrong" to them. The Fubarnii are the downtrodden who rise up and create an empire, but then refused to aid the Delgon, when they needed it, not to mention their drive to destroy any gathering of Devanu that gets too large. Then the Delgon, who were outcasts, are "invading" the Empire, but are convinced the Empire is at fault, for forcing the Devanu into their territories, and then refusing to help them. I think it all just depends on the context. The Devanu are the 'monsters', but for the most part they are just trying to survive. Generally the best way to survive is to keep your head down and not kill Fubarnii, but some Devanu (usually ambitious young jenta) don't 'follow the rules' and that generally brings the wrath of the Knights down on them and any other Devanu in the vicinity. The Empire are generally clear cut good guys, but in an empire that size there will be unpleasant characters, and some of those will have floated to positions of power. The Delgon sincerely believe they are the good guys, but they are intent on butchering devanu, slaughtering innocent villagers and expanding their realm, all for the greater good. I always found it interesting to see what colour stone players chose if they were Devanu. There was a black stone or a white stone, and only once did a devanu player choose the white stone... Title: Re: Salute 2012 - the games Post by: Ritualnet on April 22, 2012, 01:40:14 pm I'm so embarrassed. I opened my pack while sitting down, and then when counting the figures, couldn't find one of the Militia.
When I stood up to make a drink, something small and shiny hit the ground. The last Militia. I'm so sorry. I have all my figures! I think the Devanu, as you said, they didn't mis-treat the Fubarnii, they just used them, like we use 'lesser' animals. The young ones must be like "we want to restore what we was, we don't want to hide and pick away at the offal of the Empire". I am really interested to see where they all go. I need to finish reading all the fluff, but I do wonder if the Empire will reach a peak, and then start to decline, rot away as individuals with power become corrupted. Will the Devanu eventually have a 'saviour' that will reunite the tribes, and form them into their own empire? Will Devanu and Fubarnii fight side by side against Delgon? That's brilliant, very glad they are all there, I packed all the militia units and was concerned that I might have messed them all up, phew ;D Title: Re: Salute 2012 - the games Post by: Geckilian on April 22, 2012, 09:05:52 pm Judging from other game systems, the Empire will soon reach technological age of mastery as the engineers eventually begin to share their ideas and work together. A conclave of Fubarnii will then out the current Emperor in a civil war that leaves only those of the faithful left, before coalescing in to a single individual known only by their position - The Emperor. He will unite all the Fubarnii tribes or they will perish, before a giant schism plunges the world of Twilight in to a perpetual twilight as The Emperor is struck down.
His wounds nearly mortal, the Emperor will be forced to integrate with a large technologically advanced throne created by the Adepts of Clearly. Title: Re: Salute 2012 - the games Post by: Ritualnet on April 22, 2012, 10:09:22 pm Judging from other game systems, the Empire will soon reach technological age of mastery as the engineers eventually begin to share their ideas and work together. A conclave of Fubarnii will then out the current Emperor in a civil war that leaves only those of the faithful left, before coalescing in to a single individual known only by their position - The Emperor. His wounds nearly mortal, the Emperor will be forced to integrate with a large technologically advanced throne created by the Adepts of Clearly. Actually, I'd say the Delgon, are always there, trying to tempt the various Fubarnii tribes to join their cause. Eventually they manage to taint the mind of the leader of the conclave, who then eventually starts the great war. This war is taken to the Emperor's own city, and through a moment of desperation to end this conflict, he and his remaining conclave travel too the traitor's floating island. The Delgon however manage to cause the ship the capsize, spilling the group into the sea, separated from each other when they finally made land. The traitor manages to strike down the most powerful of the conclave, before meeting with the Emperor, and after a cataclysmic battle, the Emperor, mortally wounded, managed to strike down his most trusted, now turned traitor. The Fubarnii engineers took wounded Emperor, and built a contraption, powered by both water wheels and an air turbine, which would sustain his life, while his brilliant mind led the conclave and their tribes across the world, to finally bring His word and will to all. In the background, the Delgon manipulate the weak and foolish, turning tribes against tribes, all the while trying to bring anarchy to the known world. The Denavu, originally the keepers and cataloguers of the races on the world, now have returned, devouring all in their path due to their single minded, yet twisted view of their original task.
