Title: Pi is wrong Post by: TheGremlin on March 24, 2011, 07:52:14 pm Not to say that the value of pi is wrong, but that it is wrongly defined.
Thanks to the recent "Pi day" (14th of march), I was introduced to some arguments concerning Pi. I know there ae a couple of engineers on the boards who shouldn't have any problem with any of the maths, but the ideas are pretty accessible, so if anybody has some free time, they might want to have a little look. Whether they will agree or not is another matter :D Here's an introductory video. (http://vihart.com/blog/pi-is-still-wrong/) Vi Hart's other vidoes are definately worth looking at too, such as her "Math doodling". Nice, irreverent and witty maths videos. However, I sugest Tau Day (http://tauday.com) for the manifesto, which provides a more thourough treatment of the concepts. Let me know what you think. Oddly enough it makes reasonable sense as well. :)
