Title: A Way Forward
Post by: Geckilian on June 30, 2011, 06:31:40 pm
Finally got mine finished. A hunter and his tolerant graku lead a trader in to the Argoran Wastes -

Shots were taken outside in the mildly overcast daylight with added flash, as just daylight alone resulted in very blue photos.

I like the colour scheme Geckilian. I really like the Enuk skin tones. Good use of the vegetation as well.

Very nice work Geckilian. :)  With all these ace entries, mayhaps it's a good thing my minis didn't arrive on time. lol

Cheers everyone. Must admit, this competition has helped in the whole deadline painting malarkey.

Cheers everyone. Must admit, this competition has helped in the whole deadline painting malarkey.

I know exactly what that is like.  Sometimes I think if I don't have a deadline I'd never get anything done.

I have to get one of those hunters- he's just so cute!  ;D
Nice little scene- I can imagine it'll still be game functional too- could be an objective or a group to defend or rescue.

Nice diorama! Great arrangement of minis, with some nice touches.

It certainly is, they're all secured with a tiny amount of glue and thus can be rebased easily, ohoho.

Lovely clean and bright. Great job on the hunter, youve picked out details really well.

This entry has some really lovely individual models in it - they are all painted well, and fit nicely together. The skin tones work well on all the models and I like the very 'functional' colouring on the enuk - the brown with pale underbelly looks right. The baggage colours also tie everything together well, with the recurring green etc.
One minor fault with it is that it is based as a diorama, but looks better suited to a playable units. I'm sure you've pulled them all off the display base already, ready for gaming. Not a huge negative, but it might have worked better with less models on a more intimate and carefully done base. The basing is done very neatly though, and does show them off well as a group  :)

Cheers Mike, glad you like them! In retrospect I should have had them on individual bases, but with that volume of models I wanted it to be clear that they definitely fit on. Lesson learned for next time.

All in all I'm pretty pleased with them, especially as I had a 'procrastination moment' and ended up having to paint them on the 2 evenings before, and morning of, the deadline!

There is part of me that likes to see them without the bulky bases. I would love to do a Twilight force with the right size bases, but flat so they are less obvious... That'll never happen though!

Have you been painting any more Twilight recently?

Well Ian from Fenris does laser cut aeroply wood bases, I have many of the 30mm ones for Epic - I can base up a few figures on them if you'd like to see.

As for painting, I've not done anything at all since the comp entry, and I have something like 6 Malifaux crews next on the list (yikes).
