Title: Finally got started on the minis - lots of pictures!
Post by: Whitwort Stormbringer on January 22, 2012, 05:22:22 am
Well I finally got around to my new Twilight minis, at least some of them, together.  These guys are a lot of fun to assemble, even if they do take a bit of time.  I spent the better part of the day cutting, drilling, and gluing and I'm quite pleased with the results so far:

Here's my NuraKira, I put him up on a rock promontory to make him a bit taller and stand out from the other infantry.

KalGarkii with a bit of rock on their bases for added variety

The first KalMalog

The second KalMalog - she's had her left leg cut and repositioned so that she appears to be running, which I think turned out rather well.  Here are two more shots showing off the converted leg a bit better:

Dhogu specialists.  For the time being I'll be using one as the NuraKira's KalDreman, but I wanted to give them a bit of a forager/scout appearance since they're bow-armed.  I like the one peering around the corner of the rock.

Knights of the Empire

Knight Captain, converted to be charging forward on his Enuk.

CHARGE!  ;D

And the quirky engineer standing atop a rock promontory.

Still have my Empire militia and the small Devanu force to build, but I'm out of time for today.  Ho hum.  When I actually get the time to paint anything is another matter...

A lovely collection of conversions you got there Whitworth. I like the rocky additions, nice use of mini scenery.

Those are excellent. Nice work with the strider and dhogu posing. Interesting to see the different shields on the knights - they look slightly larger than the normal ones and it works well.

any thoughts oh colour schemes yet?

Thanks guys! Since I had two striders and the model is already in a pretty distinctive pose I thought it would be fun to convert the second.  Funny how just that one change makes the whole model very different.  I think the knights' shields are slightly larger - they're just plain round shields from a set of WGF Numidians. I wanted to free-hand a design on them, although I haven't settled on exactly what yet.

Actually, this seems as good a place as any to ask this question - what would Empire fubarnii's attitude be towards the Devanu under the current setting? Obviously there's plenty of resentment, but it's also been a long time since their enslavement and the Devanu don't seem like a huge threat to the Empire as a whole, but instead a threat to travelers, fringe villages, etc.  So, could an order of knights use a stylized Devanu as a device on their shields, as a symbol of ferocity and martial prowess?

I'm thinking I'll go with the traditional black for the Delgon armor, but haven't decided on what their accent color will be yet. For Empire I want to give them blue armor.

Great reposing and basing. Enjoyed browsing through your ideas for differentiation. :)

Looking forward to the painting stage!

The Fubarnii have very varied views on the Devanu. Most empire fubarnii don't really think of the Devanu as fundamentally evil, just one of those dangers of the world. Within the cities most fubarnii have never even seen a Devanu. Current fashions actually take inspiration from the Devanu, with long flowing tails.
Having a stylised Devanu on a shield wouldn't be out of place.

The posing is very good. Really like the Doghu looking around that rock/cliff edge. Nice touch on the strider too

As for Devanu insignia, I would think it depends on where your clan is set. If they are someone constantly at logger heads with the Devanu then it is less likely perhaps? Or maybe the other way around... maybe it's a show of "we're not afraid of you!"

I'd just say if it looks good, paint it! :D

Very nice conversion work! I must admit, seeing a converted Strider brings a happy warmth to my heart, so I'm looking forward to seeing all these guys painted as you mentioned in your welcome thread.

Shucks, I take it back.  A new painting project has fallen into my lap which I'm a little pressed for time to get done, so that will be taking precedence over these guys unfortunately.  But after that, it'll be straight to the fubarnii for me!
