Title: Master Engineer Garnii, The Shade of the empire.
Post by: Megatron0 on May 19, 2012, 12:23:28 am
This is my second entry! any feedback would be great!

Master Engineer Garnii

Taken as Jenta, Young Fubarnii are initiated into the mysterious order of Alchemists at an early age.
Explained the secrets of Anyaral and the complex science of chemical manipulation these pragmatic Fubarnii have seen a recent rise in the demand for their services. Trained in assassination, court politics, navigation, and warfare these Engineers often fetch a high price from any bidder.
Though most Alchemists shy away from conflict, preferring to concentrate on their elaborate studies, a particular member of the organisation has risen through the ranks with unrestrained enthusiasm for the taste of battle, Master Engineer Garnii. In appearance he is small with dark skin and sharp eyes, and is best known for his large brimmed hat and black cloak, which are always on his person while out in the field. This dark and foreboding appearance has led to some towns and villages simply referring to him as the Shade, a nickname, much to the disapproval of the academy, that he has taken on almost with glee.
In battle Alchemists are terrible avatars of fire and death. Lobbing clay pots at their enemies these will shatter, splattering the victim with a sticky ichor that ignites on contact with air. The flames burn a sharp violent blue before leaving the body a charred husk.
Garnii made a name for himself in these conflicts by demonstrating a practical use for his concoctions and on many occasions he is often keen to offer his services for free if it means he can try his latest mixture or firing device.
He has created a number of these pots, which are often carried around, at great risk, by his two assistants who care for and maintain the jars when not being used. Having these weapons on hand means Garnii has no hesitation using them to bribe, threaten, or simply destroy anything that stands in the way of his contract.
Despite his aggressive and ominous appearance many nobles or captains will not attack Devanu nests or Delgon strongholds without the use of his weapons, and the Alchemist guild is consistently flooded with petitions of aid or contracts, all for Garnii.
A dark and erratic Engineer he has sought out the wealthiest and most influential Fubarnii to offer services too, cementing his role physically and politically in the empire, while in hushed tones his opposition whisper that a dependency on this ‘sorcery’ will see the whole of Anyaral fall under the Shade of the Alchemists.

I like it mate but Garnii feels a bit dark for the Empire, not sure the Engineers would be organised enough to have an alchemist order. Sounds more Delgon to me.

I havnt read the ramblings about engineers but I remember reading that engineer is just a name for someone in a profession/someone who is in a certain state of mind?
He is just an alchemist but I threw in the engineer part because I thought he might actually be called that in the empire if not then I'll take it out :P

I don't think there is a 'guild of engineers' within the empire, but that wouldn't stop some more paranoid members of the empire worrying that such a conspiracy might exist...
A deranged engineer who has an unhealthy appetite for testing his inventions on the battlefield would be very unusual, but not entirely out of place!

Sounds like a certain engineer who freed the slaves...
