The World Of Twilight

Hi all!

I am pleased to announce the shortlist for the 2012 character design contest. I've created a short summary for each, but you should go and read the original entries as well if you want to find out a bit more of the original ideas behind them, as well as some cool game ideas and short stories etc.

You have two votes and in a week's time the entry with the most votes will be the winner of the contest :)

Nice shortlist - well done everyone!

Just wanted to clarify - are these purely for background, or are the winners likely to make it to sculpted figures one day? Some of them would make excellent sculpts!

The contest is purely for fun (and the small prize), but as with the creature contest I would like to sculpt a couple at some point! If I do ever sculpt somebody's design then they can of course have a copy as a (very belated) bonus prize :)
All the short listed characters can now be considered as officially being part of the world.

Every character is fantastic! I can't decide who my second vote should be for!

I finally voted.... Based mainly on the original entries themselves.
One thing I meant to say is that I would love feedback on my versions from the original entrants. Did I capture what you were going for or have I missed anything?

Speaking for myself, I am very happy with the modifications you have made to my trader. You gave her a place in the world with her links to trading in the casani territories, something I was not confident about deciding upon. Doing that sort of thing gave it legitimacy, so thank you. Being considered an official part of the world is just icing on the cake :)

I would like to add that this whole process has provided some very enjoyable reading with all the entries. Just imagining how each would fit into a narrative scenario has stimulated the creative juices.

I was surprised it didn't have one already (which led to slight confusion on my part)!
Shadowolf, glad you like how she fits in. I felt bad doing rough sketches from your artwork, but wanted it all to fit together! If I sculpted her I might mess around with the mount (make it smaller than a Belan, but larger than a baruk), but she would certainly be accompanied by a few casani bodyguards.

I feel Muilor is very much as I imagined him - and the sketch is wonderful (particularly to the eyes of one such as I, whose artistic ability can be most charitably described as nonexistent!).  :)

I did notice she's not riding an Erelai though and they seem to have vanished from the Hasslefree store...have they become extinct?

Ah yes, the erillai... The models never actually got a full release, but I can find them if anybody would like to get hold of them. I'll do something with them at some point - I originally had a Plan, but that hasn't come to fruition. I wasn't sure about them as postie mounts, so did a taller, faster breed of enuk instead. I might revisit that at some point of course!

No problem. I suppose being a bit on the skinny side they would probably be better sprinters rather than long distance runners.

I bought one at Salute. My son, Tom, and I had a cunning plan to buy one or two each Salute to build up a herd. Will it still be available at Salute?

Don't worry, they'll stay available via points or shows until I find a specific use for them.

When you say 'shows' ... does that mean that Twilight is present at other shows than Salute, or is it just a typo?

There is a great show here in Norwich in September (Eastern Front) which would be a good showcase for the game. Not sure how much stands, etc are though...

Thus far it's only been salute as I haven't had the time or energy to do any others! Maybe some year it'll be an idea, but this year i think moving house will keep us busy.

Just like Privateer Press have Press Gangers, and Wyrd Minis have Henchmen, you could always get voluntary help for other shows. Call them Vampires and give them glitter maybe? ;)

Or glue tuffs of hair to their faces... ;)

I would quite like to enlist in any programme like this :D

Nice idea though. Geckilian and Tuffskull pretty much took on that role at salute last year, which was a Huge help!

Well done to everybody who entered, and particularly well done to those who had their entries shortlisted. I had fun merging them into the world and you've all now got a little bit of twilight history to your names. I'll update the points lists with your prizes of £10 (5pts each).

Now I'll just have to make sure to pick one of these to sculpt over the next few months...

Yes, congratulations HN - an excellent creation.

It is a good thing that Captain Jarmu is not interested in glory and shuns publicity! Grenird's sponsors are a little alarmed however and are rumoured to be considering entering deals with the postal service ... ;)
