Title: Scenic Elements for Anyaral and Factions - Would you like them?

Good morning all!

We’re currently reviewing our range and looking for opportunities to either flesh it out a bit more or add a bit of extra detail. This led us onto the possibility of offering scenic elements for WoT. I should be clear that there is no timetable for these right now and as such this is a fact finding post/poll… That said we’ll jump at the chance when capacity frees up. This poll will run for 10 days.

Would you be interested in small to medium sized scenic elements for your tables? These would potentially come in generic and faction specific flavours so which should we look at first? I’ve thrown a few generic examples below but what would you like to see made for specific factions? Have a vote and post up any suggestion you may have for this and perhaps even a sketch? Mike did a few sketches of the type of thing we're thinking of...

Generic
•   Galobar trees of varying sizes
•   Garkrid mounds
•   Sets of generic ruins
•   Large mushrooms/fungi

There's a flora spread somewhere that goes into a bit more detail... I've wanted to do scenery for years but never got it off the ground. I'm certainly interested to see what people would like!

I think the more generic stuff is a must. Just looking at those garkrid mounds and giant shrooms there's unlimited cross genre use for such as that. The big trees would be great but how would they be presented for sale? Resin cast bulbous base with some wire and leaf material thrown in? Or ready made and painted?

I've seen trees delicately cast in resin but one suspects the failure rate is quite high. How would they be sold? It comes to flexibility and cost. From a flexible perspective the bare tree with no foliage would be best as players can add whatever colour moss/lichen they wish. This would also allow them to incorporate a "dead" tree into a larger bit of terrain. Imagine a galobar tree with a Garkrid mound attached to it. It'd also be the cheapest method of production.

If you make Galobar trees a resin trunk with metal branches might be the best way. Large mushrooms/fungi, Garkrid mounds if made will sell to most fantasy gamers not just Twilight gamers.

Initially I'd say start with the generic stuff, as Klute said they would be more likely to appeal to other gamers etc. Then if the range became established you could add more faction specific products.

As for construction I have been using foam terrain for a bit and its very rugged and holds detail well. It's basically expanded foam but not from a can. I know MicroArt Studios do some with extra details in resin. Their is the new range of resin/plastics so perhaps the finer detai & components could be done with that.

I've been wanting to play about using expanded foam for making terrain for a while as most terrain out there is a bit bland for my liking.

I like the ideas put forward so far.

As an entomologist, I would like the Garkrid developed more. The mounds are a good start and useful terrain.

Of course, the most important terrain feature is a Pree-Pree kennel...

Pree Prees don't live in kennels! They sleep in silk lined baskets with fluffed up pillows. :)

I like the organic look of them but I'm thinking a bit bigger and more, roughly, conical.

If we step away from truly generic scenic pieces for a mo I'd like to ask what would you like to see included which can also be used for objectives. I'm thinking of things like wrecked airships, remains for a raided caravans, boats etc...

Well for scenario objectives you need...

   *something to capture - goods, civies etc

   *something to destroy/ defend - buildings, crops, camp etc

   *something to start in/ flee to - building or a camp of some description

I like convertability in scenery; generally I don't buy scenery except in two cases.

A) something is being provided which I would have to take ages sculpting. So carts, dead fubarnii, devanu or fubarnii eggs, a market stall, etc. Ideally those bits are bits though, so I can buy a few sets of accoutrements and make a range of different terrain items
B) it's something which makes what I do already (aka using scrap and bits I find) easier (Brandlin's towers are a good example there).

Ta for the suggestions so far!

I got distracted building a little house for the engineer to live in, hopefully that'll be of interest. I'll share some pics at some point but I'm currently bogged down sculpting the roof tiles... I would like to do some accessories so you can build a little garden for the engineer, but we shall see if that looks any good.

Other than that I would like to do some garkrid mounds (which will look like those termite mounds to a large extent) as fun scenery and a set of grishak eggs (rocky mounds with eggs laid among them) to act as an objective.
I've already done a devanu eggstick, I just need to get it painted so I can show it.

Those are fun bits of scenery - both would work very well!
