Title: My Twilight minis
Post by: Letchaï on May 11, 2013, 07:40:00 am
This is the first of them, a fubarnii knight captain. I'm not sure to use it in game, because i've heard of a painting contest not far... ;D

Not totally finished, especially the rider's skin

http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/593/imgp1793r.jpg/
http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/593/imgp1795c.jpg/
http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/201/imgp1796.jpg/

And the base i'll use . The hatched part would be digged in order to model a little waterfall between rocks, flowers and different plants. Well, a quite bucolic scene.

If i don't put the knight on it, it's gonna probably be the Elder, a model i find very smart !

So... Stay tuned !  ;)

Added different types of mushrooms:

So the painting !

Sunday night:

and yesterday night (more brushes, washes, etc). With and without flashlight everytime:

A biospheric question about Twilight ^^ :
Do animals like squirrels, frogs, birds exist in this world ? Or is there only fantasy creatures ? I'd like to "animate" the down of the scenery, by adding some critters ;)

Title: Re: My Twilight minis
Post by: Carcharoth on June 25, 2013, 08:03:42 pm
Sorry, no squirrels! Everything in twilight is uniquely twilight, but I wouldn't complain too much if you felt it necessary!
If you want to keep it 'correct' then the graku and skerrats might be a start and I've got a couple of pieces in the works that would fit your project perfectly... I'll see if I can get you a couple cast in resin if you would like?

Title: Re: My Twilight minis
Post by: Letchaï on June 26, 2013, 09:03:00 pm
OK, let's forget the squirrels ^^

But if I can have some exclusive stuff to put on my base, waow ! That would be great ! Thanks, Mike.

So the project is 90% done. Photos tomorrow, when the resin is dried !

Title: Re: My Twilight minis
Post by: Letchaï on June 30, 2013, 06:26:11 pm
The resin made more than 2 days to dry !! oO

So, here are the pics of the finished scenery. Well, unless Mike send me little animals ;)  (have you received my mail ?)

That is a very beautiful display piece! I really do love it, but then I've always been a sucker for well done pieces of scenery  ;D
It's a shame it missed the painting contest deadline, but very glad you got it finished.
You can certainly have some little critters...

This mini and its diorama is truly amazing. If you had just finished it a little earlier it would have been the run away winner of the painting contest!

Outstanding Letchaï, simply outstanding

I'd love to be able to use an image or two of your work on the website, would you give permission? Ideally if you could take a full length shot of the display piece from the front against a plain background?

Wow, almost one year without posting  :-\
Here's a little update, with the painting of a Fubarnii Elder, a real pleasure to paint ! Almost done (90%), and the base to do, of course.

And a good news: we tried the game with a friend and he was immediatly fascinated by the universe and minis of WoT !
So we think travle to Salute this year in order to pick a band (or two !) each !

Mike, you will soon have a mail with our orders ;)

Great work, with his black coat and blue lamp he looks a bit sinister though ;-).
As he has grey skin, is he painted up as a Delgon?
Glad to see you're back! I hope we get to see a lot more miniatures coming from you.

Excited to see how he turns out! Is he getting a scenic base?
Yell if you want any bits - I think i still owe you a small pile of critters I promised a year or so ago...

Well actually the skin is note really grey, but beige (Rakarth flesh) with a little drop of grey (old codex grey), to simulate the aged skin. But it's not a delgon :)

My eyes must be deceiving me then :). But after all, I do have a mild colour-blindness, which stops me from seeing certain colours. Especially colours that border next to each other.

Looks great. I especially like the lighting effect from the lantern!

Also I really like the taller plant you've put on the base - do you mind me asking what its made from? I've never seen anything like it before, very cool!

They look fabulous! Nice OS on the lantern, he still looks a bit sinister :).
I like the addition of the critter, it breaks away the monotony of the rocks.

I have to admit that I hadn't even noticed the mottling on the skin until I read mikes comment, but I'm glad I did. Your work is so subtle and realistic, but you always get enough contrast in to keep it effective over the whole piece. A pleasure to view!

Hi folks !
The Militia Unit is finished, except the bases of course:

(http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/716094IMGP2533.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=716094IMGP2533.jpg)
(http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/795848IMGP2534.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=795848IMGP2534.jpg)
(http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/724570IMGP2535.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=724570IMGP2535.jpg)

I will probably add a little symbol on the shoulder pads to link them together. And give them mottled skin, like Brenar. But it'll be in a second time, after the knights painiting :D

Hi all !
A little update of my fubarnii force:

the first knight
(http://img11.hostingpics.net/pics/647414IMGP2592.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=647414IMGP2592.jpg)

2 others (including the knight captain) are on the way !
(http://img11.hostingpics.net/pics/625305IMGP2594.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=625305IMGP2594.jpg)

And a Family photo:
(http://img11.hostingpics.net/pics/237563IMGP2596.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=237563IMGP2596.jpg)

My objective is to paint 2 forces of 200-250 points for the next june 13th: my association organise a convention, and i'd like to present a WoT demo table. Many work to do so far !

Title: Re: My Twilight minis
Post by: Letchaï on May 20, 2015, 01:02:23 pm
I forgot to give the recipe of my deep red:
- on a black base coat, i apply a first layer of "scorched Brown" (old GW reference)
- then a layer of a mix of "scorched Brown" + "dark flesh" (an other old reference)
- layer of "dark flesh" only
- highlight of "dark flesh" + "evil sunz scarlet"
- highlight of "evil sunz scarlet" only
(Each layer doesn't recover the totality of the surface of the previous colour)
- wash of agrax earthshade on all the surface
- the edges are passed with a mix of red + "Iyanden darksun" as a final highlight.

A bit long, but it's better to do a group of miniatures in a row.

That's a nice repose on the knight!
Your reds really 'pop' nicely, particularly with the whites on the shield. Thanks for sharing the recipe.
Are you going to paint the new militia captain (sword and shield) to go with the unit, or are you sticking with the old spear-armed one?
What's the plan for the opposing force?

Let me know if you need anything for your demo table - I'm always happy to try and provide support for that sort of event, even if it's just making sure you have plenty of reference sheets etc  :)

Thanks all !

Are you going to paint the new militia captain (sword and shield) to go with the unit, or are you sticking with the old spear-armed one?
Yes ! I've bought it at Salute. I will probably not paint him for the demos (Brenar would do the job), but he will join my force at a moment !

What's the plan for the opposing force?
Devanu !

Let me know if you need anything for your demo table - I'm always happy to try and provide support for that sort of event, even if it's just making sure you have plenty of reference sheets etc  :)
Oh thanks. Actually i'll try to translate a few texts picked up on the website: description of what is twilight, the factions, etc. Do you have a rules summary that i could translate too ? What do you mean by "reference sheet" ?

In short, a little update again:
I'm blocked at home since the beginning of the week: my son has the chickenpox !
So i can paint a little (In any case, more than if i was at work !  :D )

So i produced this cute little house:

(http://img11.hostingpics.net/pics/180967IMGP2599.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=180967IMGP2599.jpg)
(http://img11.hostingpics.net/pics/391785IMGP2600.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=391785IMGP2600.jpg)
(http://img11.hostingpics.net/pics/660088IMGP2601.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=660088IMGP2601.jpg)

Ah ! It seems that the elder visits Beru !  ;D
(http://img11.hostingpics.net/pics/434027IMGP2603.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=434027IMGP2603.jpg)

With that my demo table will be more implanted in Anyaral !

Here is a paintscheme trying for my grishak, what do you think about it ? The green should probably "pop" a bit more...
And about the eyes ? Shiny black like birds or a more "snaky" one ?

(http://img11.hostingpics.net/pics/183618IMGP2632.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=183618IMGP2632.jpg)

(http://img11.hostingpics.net/pics/126212IMGP2635.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=126212IMGP2635.jpg)

Post by: Carcharoth on May 28, 2015, 11:37:52 am
Paul and I were talking about Grishak eyes on Monday - he had planned to do something clever but ended up just sticking with black. I think that is my preference, although slotty eyes can also work!

Title: Re: My Twilight minis
Post by: GrimSnik on May 28, 2015, 11:41:09 am
i also like using black eyes as it often times ends up being the darkest part of the model (for non-Delgon at least), so they really stand out well that way.  as for the rest of the Grishak, I think I'd have the yellow stripes pop a bit more than the overall green of the body.... but I really like bold vibrant patterns.   :D

Title: Re: My Twilight minis
Post by: The Slann on May 28, 2015, 05:09:36 pm
Like the scheme, maybe ad a little bit scorpion green to highlight the stripes. Would be standing out nicely.
I tried dinosaurs eyes on mine, worked out too, especially as mine are pretty dark ;)

cheers

I also painted black eyes on almost all of my World of Twilight miniatures.
No out of lazyness, but because it looks better if you use brighter colours.
The Grishak's pattern looks fine to me, almost like a camouflage scheme.
Your knights sure look amazing!

The grishak is finished, and i made the eyes glossy black finally. Forgot to take a photo though.

But i have also finished Beru, so i've a fresh force of 300 points for the demos of my Convention next june 13th ! Not sure to have the time to continue the Devanu, but a friend who bought minis too should have make them, in order to have a beautiful table with painted models :)

I sadly can't go to Salute this year. I hoped to carry you out my scenery, but my finances have decided otherwise :/ In 2017 i hope !
In compensation, at the same date i'll visit my brother in Paris for a complete week-end of geekery: Warhammer 40k, Mordheim, GorkaMorka and of course, Twilight ! I'll show up photos of the game :)

I like how you gave them a uniform look, but kept their savage flair. These look great as a team.

Really good looking group. krypto got it right on the money - you've manage to keep them looking truly savage and fearsome, but unified too.

What do you think for the moment ?

And a few images of a game last week-end. The Devanu had to kill Beru and the Elder, the militia and knight trying to protect them. Fubarnii victory on a knife edge !

Great work, I like the line you've added between the two skin colours on the Belan. Its a really nice touch.

Totally agree with Ben. You've chosen two very similar tones for your main colours, and going bold with the banding between them really kicks the whole thing up a notch. Great work.

It can soon join back the caravan :)

It's going to sound like an echoe, but it's the blankets that really jump out. Great work on all of it though - there's a lot of work goes into painting this piece at any level and you've done it grand justice!

Fantastic!

Would you tell me your pallet for the stone-skinned Fubarnii and the orangish colored mounts?  I'd like to know how you did it.

Thanks!

Merci Erik !

For the non-french speaking dudes who spend here  ;D

Riders' stone-skin: base-coat of Baneblade Brown, shaded with Strong Tone Army Painter, and highlighted with Baneblade Brown + Rakarth Flesh, then few steps by adding Ushabti Bone.
To vary the tones: i added a drop of Olive green or bronzed flesh for base-coating.

For the mounts: base-coat of Snakebite Leather (not selled anymore :/ ), washed with Strong Tone, highlighted with Snakebite + Rakarth Flesh.
To vary the tones: i added a drop of Mournfang Brown or bronzed flesh for base-coating.

Fantastique!

I was wondering how these colors were made.  That Rakath color seems to be the tying-in lightening agent.  Okay, now I have a sense of it.

By the way, I cannot write in French.  I can speak and understand just enough to function.  French is my wife's native language (Algerian Berber) and, when her parents are living with us, it becomes the language of the house, so I get a lot of practice.  My kids even teach me.

I am also blonde, and just learning French, so please type slowly... ;-)  And I love the practice!  Merci pour ca!

It is true that technical painting words are not used in everyday life ^^

The way you painted the Belan is outstanding.
Not just the blankets or skin, but the whole colourpalette is well chosen.
