Title: Finished reading The Game forum ... some notes
Post by: Crouch on December 23, 2014, 05:19:57 am
So I've just finished reading through the entire forum The Game, what a wonderful read!  There were some threads that stood out and I've made some comments about those below:

Notes:  Reading through many of the threads started by Mike asking for opinions and feedback on either changes to the game, or playtesting rules for new forces has been great to see how the game has evolved over the years with heavy consultation and influence by the community.  Wonderful stuff.

Geckilian post battle report called The Scouring on 26th August 2010.

Wonderfully written with pictures also, a large game and fun to read.

He once again posted some more wonderful batreps, with perhaps some decidely not so awesome scenery (empty lightbulb boxes, but you know, you play with what you have!) but none the less they were an interesting read.

Jubal posted some suggestions for a Campaign System on 17th January 2011.

Some really good ideas, I love the concept of progression and was a big fan of the old GW specialist games ... they are still well loved and cult classics, and I think part of that is due to the campaign mechanics, they results in characters you love, forcing you to cry a little when they are killed.

He follows that up with several posts included a detailed description of a campaign he rang with some friends.

Megatron0 posted a thread called Clan Leaders! just for fun! on the  9th May 2011 with some out there ideas for custom clan leaders.  It was a fun read and some of the characters posted sounded pretty out there!

Carcharoth posted a thread called Contemplating a Twilight Tournament on 24th May 2011.  It was a very interested thread, discussing all kinds of ideas for running a casual tournament including multiplayer team bases campaign’esque scenarios.  After lots of discussion the thread ended on November 3rd, it would have been good to find out what happened!

Megatron0 poasted what looks to have been a great pictorial battle report on the 4th December 2011 but it seems the images are massive and don’t fit in the page properly, so despite the comments saying they looked wonderful, I was unable to view them.

Pyre posted a topic called The Resources Page on 2nd September 2012 polling the community for articles they would like to see available for download via the resources page.  Some great suggestions, though looking at the current site today there does not seem to be many available.  Perhaps once I’ve finished my interrogation of the forum I’ll find them somewhere  :)

Caracharoth posted a topic on 19th January 2013 called Lazer Cut counters.   He made some suggestions for what tokens/counters might be useful; with them being cut in plywood.  I’d love to see some tokens in acrylic with the wonderfully engraved Twilight logo!  Perhaps they already exist?

Hithero posted a wonderful battle report on 29th March 2014.  It was a great read and the pictures were excellent … very inspiring!

What a great community, I'm looking forward to working my way through all the other forums!

Cheers

That brings back some memories  :)
I got some laser cut counters done, but Ian managed to get the scale wrong on the prototypes, then they vanished from his list of things to do. I almost revived them for the kickstarter, but focused on the resin counters instead...
