Title: Some painted mini's for January
Post by: Kryptovidicus on January 14, 2015, 04:17:35 pm
Here are my first painted mini's for this month.
My goal was to get my many grishak painted, but progress isn't as good as I wanted.
So I started some side projects instead and quickly got distracted  :-\.
But at least I have something to show with.

For Arak Katain, I wanted a different skin-colour compared to my other devanu, as he comes from the Argoran wastes and not a forest region.
I also wanted his kosok to stand out and decided to give him some flashy wings.
The wings didn't work out as I wanted, but as I'm running out of time they will have to do.
Part of why I wanted some brightly coloured wings was because I see the kosok as a kopa.
It has always amazed me how different some male birds and amphibians are compared to their female counterparts, as if they are a whole different species.

I'll see what else I get done this month  :).

The look really good!
I also like your Gaming board, the patches of grass are really neat!

It is in fact a display board :), just large enough to take some photo's on. It is supposed to represent a forest, but it turned out more as a grassland.
But thank you anyway!

Excellent work! The wing patterning works really well.

I'm also loving the display board :)

I'll add my comments on the patterning work on the wings, great stuff gives me something to aim for with my painting.

Great display board also

Here's my last entry for the January painting challenge.

To be honest, I had hoped to get more miniatures done, but work and family keep interfering :).
I had actually planned to do my grishak horde, but it would have been very monotonous painting, so I switched to other miniatures.
But, I did make some progress and I'm not entirely disappointed by the number of miniatures I managed to finish.

Right now I have an unfinished Kelahn on my painting desk, that I had hoped to show together with the Devanu handler. But now he'll probably be part of the Devanu Outcasts when I get them done.

Birds, snakes and some lizards often have transition between a hatchling and adult stage. With feathers or skin showing both stages at once. I tried to do the same for my jenta handler. With cream white legs, from his hatchling stage, to a darker green on his back.
He also wears some grishak skins to blend in with the pack.

The kosok is painted as a sempa, so with less colourful wings compared to the kopa.

As Mike said I could enter these in the challenge as well, here's my Devanu starter, as posted in another part of the forums.

I really like your grishak! The colour schemes on them work well, particularly with the varying life stages. I've not seen that many painted grishak jenta yet, but the scheme you've used fits perfectly with the adults.

That's three small entries for this month isn't it? I would love to see a big group shot of them all!

I also see you've painted the alternate kosok base I did for the Arak set (with the little critter hiding on it) - that's the first one of those I've seen painted.  :)

You only had to ask ;).

They are posed on my badlands playing board though, as they would look too cluttered on the small display board (yes, it's that small :))

And a group shot of the grishak I've painted so far.

Perhaps it is hard to see, but there is a Skerrat scampering away behind the rocks.
He's in trouble though, as the jenta in the rear seems to have spotted him.

those models look fantastic. the bases really stand out against the sandy table and add vibrant ground features to the bare landscape.  :)

Brilliant all round, but I particularly like the tone shift for the Grishak Jenta. They fit perfectly with the rest of the pack but stand out enough to be recogniseable. Great stuff!

I already mentioned it on your blog, but great work.

Again love the use of life cycle progression in the paint work
and really like that rock mounted grishak

Solid work, really good looking warband. Making me think about regions for my own collection once I get stuck in! :)
