Title: Roho the Shadow Walker
Post by: Crucium Giger on March 18, 2016, 12:24:33 pm
Roho was always a little different to the other Ferals, preferring the company of the hunting animals which escorted them rather than her own kin.  Through this connection with the animals she began to learn their ways and became an excellent tracker, stalker and hunter and was able to seemingly communicate with her animal friends through what sounded like a strange series clicks and growls to the other Fubaranii.  When out hunting Roho would always press ahead of the other Ferals seeming to vanish into the shadows only to reappear again to strike a deadly blow at their prey.  Now while the other Ferals found this behaviour... odd they weren't ones to complain as they were always well fed and protected thanks to Roho's unique talents.  However as the time for Roho to rejoin her clan grew near her she began acting even more strangely, going off on her own for several days with only the animals for company, yet she would always return to her group and with food in tow.  Then one fateful day a dreadful event would change young Roho forever.
A small band of Devanu had been pushed far south by the Knights of Orel, hunger and desperation gripping them they came upon Roho's group camped out and saw an opportunity they couldn't pass up.  They began to encircle the camp, cutting off any escape route, and quietly drew closer and closer yet something alerted Roho.  She came to, alert and ready, just as the Devanu pounced and with lightening fast reactions she jumped atop an attacking Kopa with a ferocity not seen by either the Ferals or Devanu before.  The fight was vicious, the Kopa being much larger yet Roho had an animal ferocity, but it was Roho who would ultimately come out on top before going to aid the other Ferals in beating back the Devanu though upon the death of their Kopa their spirit was broken and they skulked off into the wild.
Roho had not survived unscathed, the Kopa had slashed her faced deeply on the right hand side but there was more than just the physical scar which afflicted Roho, that animal ferocity which she had unleashed would not be quietened and she knew she would not be the same again.  After passing down her weapon and possessions to a young Feral who had just joined the group (as was tradition) she would not rejoin her clan as was expected, instead she daubed her face with white paint and left with her animal companions, vanishing into the shadows and was not seen by the group again.

Tales are now heard among groups of Ferals about a shadow which stalks the wilds, occasionally a group will claim that a wild Cassani came to their assistance when a hunt had gone badly only to disappear before they had a chance to thank them.  One tale even tells of how one group of Ferals came under attack from a large Devanu pack when a terrible cry was heard and an Onsegar came bounding into their midst tearing the Devanu to pieces, what was more astonishing however was the Cassani riding on top of the Onsegar, daubed in white and bearing a terrible scar.

Great wee story! Full of character. I like how we've both gone for a scar as well.  ;D

I didn't realise the Birdlion was given a proper name also!

Only just catching up on the competition. A great story, and almost a shame that Mike's already done an Onsegar rider, but converting in some of the details for the shadow walker would add a nice character to any force!
Great stuff!

Great idea and great presentation - sorry I beat you to having an onsegar rider  ;)
I hope somebody paints the rider up as Roho!

Cheers Mike, I might even try my hand at a conversion however that would be really pushing my skills.

The arms of the Casanii are all interchangeable, so you could easily do an arm swap to give him a spear if you wanted to make him a little different.
Giving him a scar should be too hard either, although it is scary to hack at a figure! Maybe just paint the scar on?

From the image I have in my mind she'd have a bone spear in one hand with the other clutching the Onsegar's mane, she'd also be riding bare back so the saddle would have to go.  She'd be attired more simply, probably with a tunic made of animal skin or fur with minimal jewellery (though perhaps a bone necklace) though I like the headdresses on the Casanii but it would need to be a little more 'wild' in appearance.  I'll attempt to model the scar as well and really make it a defining feature.

That's a more ambitious conversion! Has a slight air of Princess Mononoke to it :)
That is a cool image though and I'd be tempted to go for a younger Feral-aged character...

I haven't seen that film in years but after a quick google check it's pretty spot on to this (give or take):
