Title: The hobbybrush in Anyaral - the Redux
Post by: TuffSkull on April 18, 2016, 08:00:00 pm
My old thread remains:
http://www.worldoftwilight.com/forum/index.php?topic=1726.0

But website woes since September 2015 have left the majority of it containing missing links and broken images.

As such, welcome to the Redux! Hopefully you won't mind seeing a few familiar pieces and pictures, so I'll start with a collection overview as it stands to date, and then update here with links and pics of more as I progress, and hopefully things won't disappear on me this time!

So, (almost) the whole lot, laid out before packing for Salute 2016:

Then, let's break it down into its composite sections.

The Empire:
Unfortunately I can't find a good photo of my central empire forces, so that shall be added soon, but there are plenty of subsections I do have covered!

Nobles:

Clan Orel:

And an engineer in his workshop, from many moons ago!

The Engu:

The delgon:

And with the delgon, another little diorama I have never actually finished, to my shame - it still needs the scripting added to it after years! This is the traveller in the Twiligt.

The Dhogu:

And missing from the group shot - the big man himself.....

The Devanu:

The Casanii:

And of course, the various and wonderful indigenous species:

Phew! I'd better find some time to paint now so I can make this a thread, not a one stop shop!

Thanks for looking  ;D

Great to see them all together! Hard pressed to pick a favourite force, although your clan Orel and jaw-droppingly good.

The bugs are 'garkrid' from the store. The one in the nest is a conversion by Paul, but I quite like the idea of doing a resin version...

...

Actually, I can't find them on the store... I'll have to add them!

Thanks all. It's definitely been a labour of love - the one range I won't sell my collections from :) and there's always more to do!

Seeing them all together like this, is a bit like finding a treasure throve full of ideas and miniatures to gawk at.
What a wonderful collection!

Thanks for the support - glad people like them :)

I've somewhat moved my painting attentions to other projects for a while, but there are still many models I photographed before salute which I've not had time to edit the pics or show them yet.

As such I have resolved that every time I turn on my laptop (which is rare.... I'm usually on iPad) I will make time to edit and a couple of pics.

For today, it's detail shots of a couple of bits from the flavour / faction of the moment - the Casanii - which I don't think I've shown in detail before - my first two scouts (which remain without warpaint) and my converted captain, made using another scout and the arm from an errallai rider. Just to confuse people, he carried both a spear and a bow (the latter goes unused in game, obviously....)

I stipples the green armour on all of these, as I wanted to give the impression of toughened and coloured leather rather than the metal / resin smooth armour of the core empire. It works at gaming distance.... Not so convinced here!  :P

I like the stippling effect   :)
The captain looks cool, even if you just confused things with the bow arm!

these look great. the green is very rich looking with the stippling..... I think it works as a means to make the armor more soft in texture.   :)

Very nice! I like the flesh tone with the darker undertone/shadow. I also like the stippled green armor. I might not have picked up on it had you not pointed it out. It does come through clearly when I zoom in.

Thanks for including the pictures. They keep me inspired.

Properly gorgeous
I especially like the skin tone and the highlighting thereof

Some very colourful Casanii.
The green of the armour reminds me more of copper oxide instead of beaten leather. But it was definitely the right colour to use.
I'm in awe of both your colour choices and the warpaint.
I'll probably repeat myself over and over again, but that doesn't make it less true: beautiful work!

Thanks guys!

That tribal design on his arm  :o

How do you mean? It's painted the same as I've done the blades for all of my Casanii, following inspiration from the obsidian style Joe painted the studio figures with.

If you just mean the quality - some of these guys were really rushed getting them done for salute. To be honest, it's not as noticeable in real life and I probably won't go back to upgrade it but if does look as rushed as it was!  :-[

I've only just noticed the obsidian style for the swords on that picture (I must be blind) and thought it looked great, something I hadn't thought about doing.

Thanks guys!

Pleased you like the red detail on the Hadera - it needed something so I added that (in a rush as usual...). Didn't turn out quite how I was envisaging it myself when I started on it, but I was pleased with the result :)

Looking forward to painting more soon, but haven't lifted a brush in a couple of weeks now! :(

The colour transition on the Hadera is almost perfect.
A magnificent model as a whole too!
