Title: Belegars World of Twilight projectlog
Post by: Belegar on April 24, 2016, 07:42:48 am
Hello all,

I just wanted to start this projectlog for my new addiction: World of Twilight. :D
A projectlog is for me to keep motivated and I hope to get some good suggestions for my work in progress from you guys (and girls?)

At Salute I bought a starterset of the Fubarnii Empire and the Casanii, also a loaded Belan with rider.

I started yesterday with the three Empire Knights and just put the base coats on there.
My idea is to make the Fubarnii Knight the same colour but their Enuks I would like to paint in all different colours.

For my first headbreak: what coulour would I use for the armour and uniforms?
I like the Red and Blue as the are used at all the pictures I see, but I like to do my own thing....... ;)
I think I will experiment on these three knights and see what comes up.

Now for my first pic:

This is it for my first post, please feel free to comment.

And why not a double-coloured scheme ?
Red-white, or green-gold, or whatever ;D

Even metallic or leather aspect.

Quick start indeed.Loving the initial colours and look forward to the next update

My initial thought for you would be white armour.

If you have multi coloured Enuks, white won't clash or get lost with any of those.

It also allows you to use either the red or blue colours you like as the spot colour to pick out details like the markings on the shields, so it will be present, but not rule the paint job.

Just a thought - I look forward to seeing your progress, whatever direction you decide to go in!

Glad you are starting a project thread :)
@paul: White? It could look great, but isn't the easiest of options!

White could work...or at least a very, very light grey with white highlights.

Looks like a good start by the way, I like the different coloured Enuks.

White would be different and I'm intrigued to see how it would look.

Liking the different coloured enuks :)

My Imperial knights, so knights of Relan and knights of Dimor, plus commander Brennar are having bone white armour.....they are still wip at the moment but look like they will "pop" on the table :)

That's a great start! White armour will probably look great if the rest of your miniatures are going to be so colourful.

Update of the Knights!

Here are two pics of a concept I was thinking of: Orange (Yes, that's my Dutch blood.... ;)) and white.

Still work in progress, have to do some more highlighting and I am thinking of a pattern on the Rider and the Enuk, then the base..........but what do you guys think?

The colours work well with the dark green of the mount. Nice :)

Looking good!

Thank you also for the note that orange is the colour of the Netherlands. I did know this but had forgotten. It means that by happy coincidence, I've just started painting a halfling army in a colour of the lowlands  :D ;D

I like the orange and the way it reflects your Dutch heritage.  8)

Once you've got some texture and/or paint on them I think they'll really start to look cool..hint hint

I like how your knights are coming on.

The orange with black and white armour scheme works really well.  8)

I like the concept of the different colour enuk, I have used it on those in my trader caravan, to reflect that they have been bred (and purchased) in different parts of the Empire.

Of the enuks the green one is my favourite, which surprises me as I normally don't like them painted greem !  :o
I think it is because you have used a dark green and it works well with the orange armour.  :)

I am not too sure about the blue enuk, to me it is too bright and clashes with the orange... but that's just my personal taste.

Keep up the good work.  :)

your knights are coming along nicely. I like the different shield colors that retain the same colors but give a little individuality to each model.   :)

Those knights are looking really nice. The colour consistency, with variation in the patterning is something I'm a big fan of and its working brilliantly here.

Also liking the look of the buildings. A good variation on the standard aesthetic - looking forward to seeing these progress.

Thanks for the comments and the nice words people!

I think you are right Halcyon!
I will tone the blue darker.

Now I would like your opinion people:
See picture below, wich rider do you like best?
The one with the blue spots or the one without?

(http://i657.photobucket.com/albums/uu295/Belegar/WP_20160506_004_zpsdlbfri0m.jpg) (http://s657.photobucket.com/user/Belegar/media/WP_20160506_004_zpsdlbfri0m.jpg.html)

Sorry for the little blurry picture....

Tonight I will be play testing my first Twilight game!
Read the rules a few time now.....I am excited. ;D

Keep posting those comments!

I'm not sure the blue spots add much as they are - I prefer the other one at the moment.
I do love the orange armour on these  :)

I think you are right Carcharoth, I have removed the blue spots for now.
As I am not sure at the moment what I want to do with the Enuks: keep them one colour or put some stripes or dots on them.......?
For now I leave them solid, I can always change them.

Every sunday I would like to put a Workbench picture on my projectlog.
So for today:
(http://i657.photobucket.com/albums/uu295/Belegar/WP_20160508_005_zpsxbllsx06.jpg) (http://s657.photobucket.com/user/Belegar/media/WP_20160508_005_zpsxbllsx06.jpg.html)

In the back from left to right:
Unpainted Casanii
Furbanii Knights - working on their bases and final touch ups.
Behind the knights: The Belan - just painted the first base colour on the skin
Furbanii militia - unpainted

In the front from left to right:
Furbanii slingers - only the skin in base colour
Herder Reyad
Furbanii light cavalry (I am going to convert one of them as Herder Reyad on a Enuk, thanks to Mike for sending me an extra slingers arm! ;D)

That's it for now.

The bright colours have worked great on those - I really like the two-coloured armour.
Well done!
Looking forward to the next bits. Will they share the same colours?

Thanks Carcharoth and a good question!
I was thinking about it, but as I read were the slingers members of the local herding families protecting their herds.
Would they wear family colours or would they only wear "natural" colour?

those look great!   :)  nice crisp painting and those shields really pop.  I also like how the top armor segment is two toned while the lower section is black. it stands out quite well that way.

It'll vary across the empire. Sometimes the militia and herders will be coopted to support the Knights so would wear their colours, or there are clans that are very close to the Knights so wear similar colours to show loyalty. Other areas have a much stronger distinction between the Knights and the locals.
Whatever you decide tells a bit more about the area your Fubarnii live in  :)

Thanks people for the kind words!
I am glad that you like the two tones of white and orange armour. :)

Here a little update of the Furbanii house I am working on.
I made some windows and then put some "painting tape" (I do not know if this is a good term in English? ;)) on the surface of the plastic to make a better underground for the plaster:

(http://i657.photobucket.com/albums/uu295/Belegar/WP_20160515_001_zpsv3qrzagg.jpg) (http://s657.photobucket.com/user/Belegar/media/WP_20160515_001_zpsv3qrzagg.jpg.html)

Next step: to put plaster on it:

(http://i657.photobucket.com/albums/uu295/Belegar/WP_20160515_002_zpsfyuqijeu.jpg) (http://s657.photobucket.com/user/Belegar/media/WP_20160515_002_zpsfyuqijeu.jpg.html)

One side at the time.......takes a little time.... ;)
But I hope it will stick on it!
Then the roof en some painting to do! ;D
I hope the end result is what I think it is gonna be........

Thanks people for the comments!

Here a little update:
I am working on the four slingers, still not done, but they are getting there:

(http://i657.photobucket.com/albums/uu295/Belegar/WP_20160522_001_zpsxo142e5n.jpg) (http://s657.photobucket.com/user/Belegar/media/WP_20160522_001_zpsxo142e5n.jpg.html)

Finished all the plastering on the house and black coated the roof.
Now I want some tilling on the roof before I start painting the model:

I'd love to see a picture of this finished house.
Also, like mentioned above, the two-tone medieval looking armour is a perfect choice. It's always good to see some new fresh ideas.
