Title: Twilight Painting Challenge 2016
Post by: Carcharoth on November 04, 2016, 05:35:07 pm
The last few months have been focused on getting all the Casanii for the kickstarter sent out and we are finally there! Some of you may have had your models since April, while others have parcels en route, but within the next few days all the backers should have their stuff!

I know how difficult it is to get motivated when the postman finally delivers the kickstarter goodies, so once again we are running a painting challenge! This worked really well after the last campaign and I was amazed at all the fantastically painted models. All you need to do is unpack your Casanii models and get painting and then post images of your models on the forum or the facebook page. At the end of November, December and January I will select my favourite painted pieces for the month and award a few prizes. The winners will probably be painted forces, but if somebody has really gone to town on a smaller diorama then I’m prepared to be flexible! The prizes will include the highly sought-after (or at least very rare) painted preepree trophy.
During the challenge you will also have chance to earn Twilight Points at the same time. If you’ve been around on the forum then over the last few years you will have seen me occasionally reward people with ‘Twilight points’ and this challenge gives you a chance to earn lots of them! Twilight points can be traded in for Twilight miniatures or other goodies (see below).

You can enter models into the challenge by painting them and then sharing pictures on the forum or on the Facebook group. Each unit is worth roughly one point (I'll do a full breakdown at the end). Each month you can earn up to a maximum of 5 points, so there are a total of 15 points up for grabs during the challenge.
If you've already painted your Casanii then just make sure you share pictures here this month so I don't miss you!

If you didn't back the kickstarter then that won't stop you entering. You can now order the Casanii models through the webstore, or just convince me that whatever unit you are painting belongs is the Casanii territories for some reason... (maybe some Delgon expeditionaries, or a trade caravan passing through the region)

Casanii Units:

The following gives some guidance how many points different models are worth, but isn't meant to be exhaustive!
The following units/models are all worth 1 Twilight Point:
Warrior Unit (4 models), Feral Unit (7 models), 2 Erillai, 1 Hadera Rider, Seh'ban Steyar, Grishak Jenta Pack (6 models), Loranti Pargal (with Daxu), Lek'Saa (with 2 grishak), Dompaku Crew (3 models), Dompaku
The following models can be painted in any group of three to be worth 1 Twilight Point:
Telanii Deyath, Casanii Scout/Tracker, Shaman, On'Saa, Beasts (Hadera, Onsegar or Erillai), Little Loranti

The mighty Dompak with its riders counts as 2 points (3 if you paint the unmounted crew as well!)

Twilight Points:

You can trade your Twilight Points in for miniatures or extras at shows or you can take them as store credit so you can order online.

Twilight Points - the small print:

Twilight points are intended as a bit of fun and a way for me to encourage you to paint and share pictures of your models and to thank you as well! They have no cash value and I reserve the right to change or cancel the promotion at any time. If you add items to an order then I’m afraid you will still have to pay the postage.

Congratulations to everybody who took part in the first month of the painting challenge!
Sorry it's taken me a while to do a summary, but it really has been fantastic to see such well-painted casanii forces taking shape! I know how busy December is, so I'm wondering whether to extend the deadline for the second month... What do you all think?

Prizes for this month
Best painted: I don't think I can justify not giving paul this prize - the paintjobs are gorgeous, especially when gathered as such a large force. Paul, you can expect one of the new Yartain figures in the post, mainly in the hope that you will paint it turquoise with purple spots...
Random enthusiasm prize: The random and arbitrary prize for this month goes to The Slann. I'm loving the overall feel of the force, with the very threatening skull facepaint. Michael has also finished for the next month as well... That's just showing off! Expect a couple of bonus characters (Gohral and Obal) in with your latest order.

Points
The Slann: 5 Points
TuffSkull: 5 Points
Serin: 5 Points
JohnDSD: 2 Points
Darth Tater: 2 Points (no, it's not cheating! You just need 1 more model to give you your first point for December)

If you want to spend any points then let me know, otherwise you can save them up for later!

Wohoo, thx :)

That explains why you kept asking me about missing models ;)

I've finally got myself organised to announce the points and winners for last month!

It was looking like a quiet month until the surge at the last minute - a few of you were obviously making the most of the break between Christmas and the New Year  :)

My highlights for last month were:
Best Painted: Jean-Edou's beautifully presented Loranti and Gil caught my eye this month!
Stealth painter: once again Serin's snuck in with a last minute entry to get the full five points - I'm keeping my fingers crossed that he's got a set of Dompak Riders tucked away somewhere, but looking forward to seeing whatever he adds to his formidable force!

A special mention goes out to The Slann, who has already pretty much finished off his January entries as well...

Points
The Slann: 5 Points (10 points total)
Serin: 5 points (10 points total)
John DSD: 1 point (3 points total)
Danger Frog: 2 points
Jean-Edou: 2 points
Matt: 1 point
Tuffskull: (5 points total)
Darth Tater: (2 points) (I'm still waiting for him to paint some new stuff!)

And the 2016 Painting Challenge is over! Congratulations to everybody who participated, once again it has been a huge pleasure to see so many different takes and styles for the models  :)

This month has seen a couple of impressive collections rounded out by The Slann and Serin, who both managed to paint the entire Casanii range (although Michael did miss Loranti out...). I'm seriously impressed with both these forces and I hope I get to see them in the flesh at some point!

The Slann also got a couple of bonus points this month for painting up the new Dhogu models - Tak Sirahn and his Yirnak.

Danger Frog and John DSD both clearly started the year off strongly and rapidly grew their painted collections! While I'm not convinced Danger Frog's Onsegar is entirely finished, that is the first 'acorn bug' to have been painted so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt  ;)

I've set aside one of the coveted pree-pree painting trophies for the four of you who earned six points or more - remind me to add them to your next order!

I think that is everybody this month, but yell if I've missed anything.

Top Painter Prizes
This month I'm awarding two prizes to the top painters of the challenge - Serin for painting the entire range and The Slann for having painted the most models! I'll be sending off a few completely models for a master mould very soon and I'll set a few masters aside for each of you.

All that is left for me to do is announce the final points totals. Drop me a line if you want me to credit them to your store account (they are worth £2 each), or just let me know if there is anything specific you would like!

Points
The Slann: 7 Points (17 points total)
Serin: 5 points (15 points total)
John DSD: 3 point (6 points total)
Danger Frog: 4 point (6 points total)
Tuffskull: 5 points total
Jean-Edou: 2 points total
Matt: 1 point total
Darth Tater: 2 points total

Wohoo :) Thx a lot, I'm looking forward to those masters. And don't worry, Loranti and a couple of other characters are on the list next, after painting a whole army, I need some variation anyway.

Congrats to everyone who joined in, looking forward to an exciting painting year!
