Title: Other projects. Post by: Geckilian on April 28, 2011, 04:31:10 pm So since the Salute blitz I've generally been taking it easy (i.e. not painting much) for Twilight. So far it's just been the little critters. However I've still been painting, mostly for the roleplaying sessions I'm in. I tend to convert up and paint characters for pretty much everyone in the group, which makes combats more visually interesting.
Lately a character of mine, the wizard Jonas Tauln, make a bit of a faustian deal with the main bad guy, mostly to pass the time. As such here he is after the sudden transformation, on the right. The statue on the left is simply something he can turn in to as he's a wizard. I'm aiming to get another Reaver, 2 Warhounds, a pair of Thunderbolt fighter proxies and 8 'Sentinels' (the old Chaos Dreadnoughts) done for Wednesday morning as I may have a game, so there'll be more shot coming. Of course I also have 'several' other titans also assembled and primed, so no doubt those'll get painted too. Title: Re: Other projects. Not convinced by the landing pad though... I think it doesn't look like it is supported at all, and the top isn't weathered like the rest of the Titan. I've not actually got round to weathering the carapace pad, since I'll likely be selling the titans anyway (as I'm getting newer, nicer ones!) but I did get round to painting up a test rhino and stand of nurgle marines -

I've never played, though I'm starting up 4 armies (Death Guard, Red Corsairs, Adeptus mechanicus and a new Titan Legions) as another friend is collecting marines now. From what I've read it can be brutal and more demanding than the 40k style of running forwards and gunning everything down.

Title: Re: Other projects. Post by: Geckilian on June 03, 2011, 10:20:38 pm Quickly converted this guy up from a Ral Partha dwarf for use as a cleric in the OD&D game I'm running currently. Just had to carve off the axe blades at the bottom of the weapon, and added a hammer to the top, as well as an evil empire dwarf thunderer buckler. The base is a nice cthulu one from Fenris.
The figure fitted quite nicely for a Dwarven follower of Ormyr the Shrewd, a homebrew deity of prosperity, wealth and cunning. Pretty pleased with the purple, though I need to tidy up the armour on the feet and what not. Painted this one up yesterday as a distraction from a load of World of Twilight minis. I don't often paint yellow, so experimented a bit and tried out the new yellow wash from GW. The wash looked slightly green in the recesses before it dried, but it turned out quite nice afterwards. Otherworld, with a Fenris base. It was basically just loading up the brush then touching it to tissue so only pigment remained, then just drawing the brush along enough times to get the colour to start showing. The flesh underneath was highlighted normally like the rest.

The next one probably won't look quite so drunk, and from how he looks now, may actually look somewhat of a revolutionary. Here's a few shots, plus a comparison to some of the Slayers - at 5'4" he's just short of most of my human models, and half a head to a head taller than other dwarfs. Excellent.

As I've wanted to play for a while (though I only own 1st ed) I happily joined and rolled up a dwarven pit fighter. Ye gods, he's incredible. Max wounds, toughness, fate points, good weapon skill, pretty reasonable other stats. His character details however.... I want him to eventually progress to troll slayer and onwards to a glorious death. Turns out, he naturally has copper coloured hair and purple eyes, is bloody massive at the max height of 5'4" and is the max starting age at 115. Bloody hell, an old pit fighter. Not only that, but his birthplace? Slayer Keep, Karak Kadrin. This blighter's been living as a pit fighter for 70+ years in the god damn Slayer Keep, no doubt fighting trollslayers and god knows what, and is a tall mountain of a dwarf. The session itself went excellent - used a hand axe and buckler for the first half of the session before I realised nearly everything that hit me bounced off my toughness and armour, so switched to the great axe and started cleaving everything up. Those beastmen and slaaneshi cultists didn't fully apreciate what hit them (repeatedly). Must say, I'm quite psyched to be playing this guy, and now I need to source a suitable mail-shirted dwarf to convert to being a massive 5'4". He's taller than several humans he's met.... Still, at least he's 'done'. Oddly enough, thanks to the campaign starting a month ago, Rogan now have mostly plate armour and a full set of chain. As such I'll be converting him up again once the base model arrives! Krom's still on full chain and a plate helm now, so this current model of him fits. Only 2 more dwarves left to paint in the party, Ozrid the rat catches and Snorri the thief. Already have their models converted and basecoated, so with my Twilight pledge going well this month I should have enough time to get them both done by Tuesday. Title: Re: Other projects. The band of cloth was from an Empire Knight helm and added before the original top band from the dwarf's helm was put back. I basically just took out a slice large enough for the cloth slice to fit.
Rogan 2.0 is also converted now with appropriate weaponry, height, armour and baggage! Should hopefully get him basecoated and partially painted tonight. Title: Re: Other projects. Unfortunately I've not really painted anything for a while, but that should change soon with 6th ed 40k bringing a bit of life back to the game for me, and the new Chaos Codex being a lot of fun....
