Instant Mold! A sculptors new friend?

So as a newbie sculpter ( well i want to be anyway...) I couldn't help coming across this interesting find! and was wondering if anybody had any experience with it?

I was just curious to see how effective it is especially for a newbie :3 The video does look convincing! and would certainly help me with bases. HN you from the uk? if so where did you pick yours up?

Yep, I got mine from ebay. I think it was Troll Trader that was selling it. I saw that video and thought it looked useful so got some but haven't had the time to use it yet.

I had some of this stuff ages ago in a different branding. Its basically a thermoplastic that softens in hot water and hardens when cooled. Its probably got plenty good uses but not for sculpting IMHO. I tried some press moulds but wasnt too impressed.
If you want to try some out then ebay will have cheaper stuff than coolmini.

In different form this has been around for years. Kluge is right, it's a thermoplastic, bit like all thermoplastics it has pretty long chain moolecules which means it won't take up fine detail too well. Not bad for simple press moulding of say shields but not much else I'm afraid.

Is it similar to the stuff mouldable gumshields are made from?

When I saw the video I though why not just make a two part greenstuff/epoxie putty mould instead?

I do use greenstuff for press mould now and then. The trick is using the different puttys characteristics to your advantage. Epoxy puttys though stick to the "cast" really well unless well lubricated. Thats bad for detail but is ok for just pressing blanks of stuff youve done that you touch up after.
Best stuff Ive used so far is the silicone gum type but its pretty soft when cured so detail is usually warped for pressed stuff. It can be quite expensive too unless you have a wife that runs a dental practice and can get decent sized tubs of the stuff 
I like milliput for creating little press tools as its rock hard so presses detail perfectly.
