What are they like? Are they a hot desert, or more just a dry and dusty place with such poor soil that little grows? How much rainfall do they get? Would there be oases? Any special plants/animals?

Anything you can tell me would be great!

From the book all i got is the map and the word 'wastes' So i imagine its an arid desert abit like this pic. Though i could be waaaay off.

Megatron's view is close to mine, but perhaps it would be a tad more sparse. Not much rain at all. A few interesting rock formations though.
