Are the spears bending that much?
Generally, there are two ways to replace the spears:
Method #1
1) Measure length of the spear shaft, and add a few millimetres to that size to allow it to go into the head and the end cap of the spear.
2) Find some brass rod of a similar diameter, and cut a suitable length.
3) Clip off the shaft sections of the spear, and drill holes through the hands and into the head and the end cap.
4) Push the brass rod through the hands, and then glue the two ends up.
5) Offer up the hands to the model and carefully run a little bit of very thin superglue into the hand/spearshaft joint.
6) Let it set, and then you're done.
Method #2
1) Same as Method #1 (1)
2) Using some thin steel or piano wire instead of brass rod, Same as Method #1 (2)
3) Measure the sections of spearshaft between the hands, end and head.
4) Cut some suitably-sized brass tube that will fit over the wire to suit the dimensions in (3) above.
5) Same as Method #1 (3)
6) Push the thin wire through one hand and glue. Now slide on two corresponding sections of brass rod over the the wire, then the other hand, the last section of tube and the head or end cap (depending on which hand you started with!
7) Same as Method #1 (5-6)
This is fiddly work as you can imagine! Method #1 is the simpler of the two, but drilling bigger holes in the hand can weaken them a bit. Method #2 is more involved, but is better if the hands are small, or if you are going to also pin the hands to the arms.
A better visual guide to the second of these two methods can be found
here.
If you need to know where you can get brass rod or different viscosities of superglue, etc, just shout.
