Yet another scenario from the new book, 3 Jenta and their 3 Grishak against 2 Striders, an important Acolyte with bodyguard, normal acolyte, 2 gunners and 6 normal soldiers. The Jenta aim to kill the pair of Striders, and the Delgon aim to drive off the Devanu by taking out the trio of Jenta. The Striders, as per the scenario, start with only 1 stamina fuel, rather than 6, and can refuel at a Delgon wagon, no doubt used as bait, in the centre of the board.

Setup was as follows for the first game, with the second having the Jenta all together.

Game 1, the Jenta were one of each type - hunter, spear and handler.
Turn 1. The Delgon warily moved forwards, knowing the refueling contraption was nearby. Within a few moments they spotted the strange device ahead, though to the dismay of the Acolytes it was clear it was a trap - a trio of Grishak quickly bounded forwards, and it seemed Jenta too were waiting as they snuck forwards.

Turn 2. The Spear Jenta, seeing his chance, loped forwards quickly and let loose a spear at one of the two Striders. It struck true, yet was deflected by the sheer ingenuity of the mechanical legs. Under the command of the NuraKira, several KalGarkii rushed forwards to protect their charge, and the KalDerak levelled his gun. With a quick mutter of hope, the KalDerak triggered the somewhat dangerous device and watched in horror as the Spear Jenta nimbly avoided the shot. Seeing the Jenta twisting and turning, the pair of KalMalog thundered forwards to pin him down. The resulting combat was quick and bloody, with the expenditure of the precious last dregs of fuel in one of the pair ensuring the Jenta's demise. The Hunter, seeing a pack mate butched, hissed in frustration and circled around, planning the surprise attack.

Turn 3. Seeing the savage danger of the Grishak, the NuraKira once again directed the KalGarkii and KalDerak forwards. They bravely rushed forwards to form a defensive screen in front of the KalMalog, though the KalDerak, furious at his device for not killing the Jenta in front of him looked around in exasperation. Spotting a Jenta hiding round a corner, the KalDerak rushed off to the side, letting loose another shot. His anger gave way to terror as the Jenta almost contemptuously evaded the attack, then rushed in close. With sharp trills and clicks, the Grishak charged the soldiers in front of them. The first was met by a glaive and impaled itself, it's bulk crushing the poor soldier as it slammed in to him. The third rushed in an utterly missed in it's mindless savagery. The second however landed two choice and savage hits against the soldier opposite it. In a display of Delgon supremacy, the armour held firm against both bites (2 saves of 6!). The Striders, seeing their chance to reach the 'wagon' stomped forwards and went to start refueling, aware they had passed the Jenta shepherding the Grishak. In a pair of bloodthirsty combats, one of the Grishak perished as it continued to miss, consistent with its charge, yet the KalGarkii struck true. The second soldier with the impressive armour managed to survive yet another 2 blows as the last Grishak worked itself in to a frenzy at the annoyance of its prey refusing to die (yet another 2 saves of 6!). The poor KalDerak however was mercilessly ripped apart by the Hunter, who looked at the NuraKira with a gleam of hunger.

Turn 4. Working as quickly as they could, the pair of KalMalog began to refuel. The Hunter raced in to the unoccupied soldier before he could aid his comrade and neatly bisected him. The Grishak, still frustrated, flailed wildly before finally landing a telling blow - which yet again was deflected by the armour! (5 saves of 6 in a row, what a trooper!) Angry at the destruction of 2 of the 3 hunting beasts, the handler raced in to one of the Striders. Unfortunately the Jenta didn't understand the functions of the fuel, as the Strider prompty burnt through all of their newfound supply and ground the Jenta in to the ground, causing a satisfied smile to play across the NuraKira's face.

Turn 5. Seeing the sheer heroics of the remaining KalGarkii of the first group, the NuraKira ordered the soldier to cautiously disengage from combat as he himself edged just close enough to allow his bodyguard to engage the Grishak. The KalMalog saw that now there was only one remaining Jenta and, having fuel, stomped off and promptly slammed the tired Jenta in to the ground, ensuring that all parts of the Jenta were utterly flat. Satisfied his work was done, the Strider turned and went to rejoin his comrade, only for the dying Jenta to suddenly lash out, ending his mechanically altered life. The KalDreman, to finish the job, neatly dispatched the Grishak, before realising that having it land on him was not only inconvenient, but fatal. With the last of the devanu eradicated however, the day was clearly won.

Result: Delgon win.

Game 2 - this time all 3 Jenta were Spears.
Turn 1. Seeing their objective ahead, and blatantly surrounded by Devanu forces, the Delgon doggedly marched on. Looking to accomplish an ambush, the KalMalog strode vaguely sideways. With huge enthusiasm, the trio of Jenta raced ahead, even leaping in their excitement to get to the enemy, with the Grishak trailing behind.

Turn 2. Seeing an opportunistic shot, a Jenta ran forwards, made sure she aimed properly, and threw a vicious spear before acrobatically leaping behind some unusually shaped rocks. The Strider, noticing the projectile, had only enough time to express some disbelief at a Devanu using a thrown weapon before it impaled him, rather specifically, in the eye. This naturally ended his life. The second Jenta, having naturally faced the Delgon before, noticed that one of those facing her was wearing robes. A well placed spear later and the NuraLehn lay dead upon the ground, the soldiers under her charge looking rather alarmed. Muttering to himself, the remaining Strider continued to circle around.

Turn 3. With heavy hissing and clanking, the Strider moved round a strange rock formation, pleased with his attempts at stealth. Hearing the mechanical cacophany, a Grishak went to investigate, and a savage charge later had found itself a hearty meal. Truly it was a good day to be a Devanu.

Result: Devanu win.

-------------------

An entertainly different pair of games. The first resulted in the ultimate man of the match - a lone KalGarkii, surviving 5 hits from a savage Grishak - that's a 1 in 7776 chance. That guy is definitely not only getting painted, but in a notable and impressive scheme. I need to convert that plucky little guy. It also went to show that if the Striders get to refuel, things tend to go downhill for the Devanu.

Game 2 saw the Devanu act rather more agressively, using both leap and focus to evidently great effect. Though they're pretty bad in combat, with those 2 abilities unless something actively tries to run them down and uses a lot of stamina to catch them, they can pretty much stay out of range of most things. Spear Jentas are now most likely the type I'll be taking most often.

Those dalek get everywhere...

Good game reports! This scenario does tend to be quite a challenge for the Devanu - as soon as the striders get to the dalek it tends to be over for them. Interesting to see the Spears being quite so effective in the second game. I've never tried using them in such large numbers...
